What you can't do is boot the Vista install disk and run setup outside of XP, you must have a working installation

I Changed the BIOS, then went through the same process again, doing a clean install of XP Pro on the first Raptor, did a clean install of XP MCE on the second Raptor and upgraded that again using the Dell Vista upgrade. Everything went just fine and the system runs just fine under XP and Vista.

The upgrade licenses is for the PC that you have licensed for XP, so, under the license agreement, you can not take a computer that has no OS on it and install Upgrade Vista using the media/files from another computer.
